About Us

Introducing Baba Shop, a collective of artists of African descent creating immersive digital art exhibitions inspired by West African barbershop aesthetics. Our exhibitions feature curated works from emerging Black artists inspired by the barbershop and salon theme, offering live demonstrations, panel discussions, and art & tech installations. Attendees will engage with art from the African diaspora, enjoy giveaways, and acquire unique art & merchandise. Celebrating and amplifying Black culture, our shows spotlight shared experiences in African/Black salons or barber shops worldwide.

The term “baba” has roots in multiple languages as a reference to “father” or “respected fatherly figure”. Baba Shop founder Pap Musa created this fictional space in his artwork inspired by the salon owned by his mother during his childhood and named in honor of his Grandfather. The play on words so phonetically similar to “barbershop” speaks to the synchronicity of the entire creative idea.

Originally launched as an installation at the 2021 Digital Art Fair in Hong Kong, Pap Musa enlisted Abieyuwa Eigbobo to help evolve Baba Shop into its current form. Leveraging her extensive experience in curating exhibitions and organizing events both in the United States and internationally, Abieyuwa Eigbobo played a pivotal role in reimagining Baba Shop and bringing Pap Musa’s vision to life.
